Splatoon is a third-person shooter video game franchise created by Hisashi Nogami and Shintaro Sato and developed, published and owned by Nintendo. It is set far in the future on a post-apocalyptic Earth that has been repopulated with evolved marine life and centers around a pair of humanoid races derived from cephalopods known as Inklings and Octolings—squids and octopuses respectively—which can morph between humanoid and cephalopodic forms at will. They often engage in "Turf War" battles with each other and use a variety of weapons that produce and shoot ink while in their humanoid forms or swim through and hide in solid surfaces covered in their own ink while in their cephalopodic forms.

My History

I will always be proud to say that Splatoon has undeniably changed my life. Watching the trailers back in 2015, playing the game on Christmas Day, lord how it makes me CRY. I unboxed the beautiful Wii U game on Christmas Day 2015, and attempted to play it right there on my gamepad. I recall seeing on the screen that I had to play on the TV and sprinting upstairs lol. I sat there on the rug looking up at the television with beady eyes. This memory has been engraved in my head forever, and I have god awful memory.

During Splatoon 1's lifespan, to be completely honest, I close to never played online. In my defense, I didn't even have Nintendo Online for a while. But I believe this is how my preference for the story and world building of Splatoon came from, over the multiplayer. Although, this doesn't mean I never found myself in a battle or two. I have a good collection of memories where I'm crashing out in turf war with my roller, but there was another form of competitive gameplay I enjoyed...

OH BOY the Battle Dojo how I MISS YOU. Since I lived at my grandparents' house at the time, I would see my cousin a lot. We were honestly closer than siblings...Of course I needed to force them in to my shiny new squid game, and so we played Couch Co-op with the Battle Dojo. If you didn't know, the Battle Dojo was a co-op mode in Splatoon 1 where player one would play on the gamepad screen and player two would play on the TV. The aim of the game was to pop the most balloons in a certain amount of time. However, my cousin wasn't a fan of being absolutely dominated, and so we made our own game. We would split the map in half, this was my job, and then we'd wonder off to our own sections and ink the entire thing from head to toe. Walls and everything. We'd desperately avoid accidentally popping balloons or picking up a special. We'd spend hours doing this, and once the map was covered, we'd simply just mess around. I always finished inking before them, so I'd sneak over to their base and stumble around in their ink LMAO.

Okay okay, I've got to pick up the pace. Let's fast forward toooo... The Splatoon final fest. Callie VS Marie! Back in the day, I was a MASSIVE Marie stan. I literally don't know why... Maybe because she was green? Green is my favourite colour, after all. Anyways, so yeah I was on team Marie, booyah babaaaay!!

Somehow, I remember Splatoon 2 less than Splatoon 1... Yikes... I remember one summer I dedicated a good few days to completing the story mode and also the story on Splatoon 1, since I somehow didn't complete it. I remember having such a hard time picking a hairstyle, I have decision paralysis, okay? I would constantly change it.

I am incredibly upset I have somehow managed to forget my first time playing Octo Expansion. AKA the life changing story for Splatoon 2. Everyone always recounts their reactions, but boy I got nothin'. I remember being extremely obsessed with the ways octolings presented themselves and their animations. Why did Nintendo take that from us.

In Splatoon 2's final fest, Chaos VS Order, you know I was on team Order!! Loud and proud about it too. It just seemed...so cool...and was also how I prefered the world to be anyways. Sometimes I still try to imagine what we lost from team Chaos winning. Although, I'm not angry or sad or anything, I love Splatoon 3 as it is.

Talking about Splatoon 3! Watching that first trailer is such a good memory. I remember I spammed everyone I knew with that link, I genuinely was so ecstatic. The vibe of that summer was immaculate. Splatoon 3 is when I finally woke up, imo. I beat the story in about 2 days, I finally got good at multiplayer, I was having the time of my life. I still have the World Premiere on my Switch because that was such a wonderful time. I remember trying out the new weapon types before immediately putting them down because my god are they not my style.

OMG SIDE ORDER'S REVEAL TRAILER. How I miss it. I remember I was extremely sick, so I was laying in bed in the early morning when I opened my phone to see that trailer...When I tell you I was OBSESSED. I looped it constantly 24/7 in the most legitimate way possible. I loved that piece of music it became my soundtrack. To be honest, I mourn how the actual DLC didn't keep that same vibe from that trailer, but that doesn't mean I disliked it. I remember when I completed the DLC I was heartbroken that I didn't see all of the bosses and I didn't see that one character (Cipher) from the key art. Well, I quickly learnt that you had to go back and complete all of the palletes...whoops.

Grand Festival...My beloved. God I cry so much thinking about it. HELP I REMEMBER LEADING UP TO THE EVENT I HAD DREAMS ABOUT IT AND THEY WERE SO REALISTIC I COULD FEEL THINGS. I actually had that leading up to the release of Splatoon 3 too. I could explain those in another page since I can remember them so well. Grand Festival really was a love letter to Splatoon. I was on Team Present! I only played like 2 matches overall, since I spent all of my time wondering around the grounds. Oh my God...I remember recording every stage all the way through so I could have it to rewatch, since I didn't have amiibos at the time. Now I do have idol amiibos! So I can return to the Grand Festival grounds!

Whew...That's basically everything so far. I am so excited for Splatoon Raiders. The trailer came out the day before my birthday, and I remember checking my phone to see my friend spammed me about the reveal trailer. I had a massive panic when the release date was revealed, because I wouldn't have enough for a Switch 2 by that time, but luckily I got gifted one for my birthday! The only reason I wanted a Switch 2 btw LOL.
